Kitchen & Dining at Gilfach Wen Barn

Cooking for a large group is very different from cooking for a family of four.

Gilfach Wen Barn has a fully equipped self-catering kitchen and a separate dining room with enough space for the whole group to eat together. Whether you are planning cooked breakfasts, packed lunches, a barbecue or a big evening meal, the facilities are designed with group stays in mind.

A kitchen for self-catering groups

The kitchen is equipped so that groups can prepare their own meals during their stay.

Rather than bringing equipment from home unnecessarily, check the information below when planning your menus and shopping.

Everyone can eat together

One of the advantages of booking Gilfach Wen Barn for a group is being able to sit down for meals together.

The dining room seats the full group, so you do not need to divide people between different rooms or eating areas.  There are 2 wooden dining tables and 2 folding tables offering flexibility in how you set up the tables with stack able dining room chairs.

It is also a useful communal space for planning the day’s activities, playing games or simply sitting around the table together.

Planning meals for a large group

If you have never catered for 20 or 30 people before, deciding what to cook — and how much to buy — can be one of the harder parts of organising the trip.

You don’t need to make every meal complicated.

Simple meals which can largely be prepared in advance, cooked in one or two large dishes, put in a slow cooker or served buffet-style can make catering for a group considerably easier.

Barbecues and outdoor meals

There is an undercover barbecue area outside the Barn, giving groups another option for meals during their stay.

Because it is covered, you don’t necessarily have to abandon the barbecue simply because the Welsh weather has other ideas.

There is also a garden fire pit for groups to enjoy in the evening.

Eating out during your stay

Self-catering doesn’t mean you have to cook every night.

Many groups choose to have at least one meal out during their stay. There is a pub in walking distance and a selection of other country pubs and other places to eat within driving distance. Options vary depending upon the type and size of your group

Rather than publishing menus, prices or opening hours which can quickly become out of date, we provide links to the businesses themselves so that you can check their current information directly.

Accessibility in the kitchen and dining room

The dining room is accessible to wheelchair users, but the kitchen itself has not been specially adapted. Worktops and sinks are at standard heights.

If someone in your group has particular accessibility requirements, please read the detailed information before booking.
