Gilfach Wen Barn is not only easy to reach from the main roads into South West Wales, – but is also central for exploring all of South West Wales.
In this section of the website I have grouped together suggestions of places to visit and useful contacts based on distance:- local, within 30 minutes drive, within an hours drive. I have also put together separate pages on special interests, for example dog friendly attractions and activity centres or museums.
Some guests prefer to incorporate a leisurely day sight seeing into their journey to Gilfach Wen, so I have also posted some suggestions of places to visit when using any of the major highways to South West Wales.
I am both a tourism ambassador for the Brecon Beacons National Park, and for Carmarthenshire. I have been involved for over 12 years in the Cambrian Mountain Initiative, and the chair of the local tourism association. an organisation working to link the local heritage and landscape and tourism with benefits for the local residents Tourists using village pubs and shops and visiting local craft workshops helps to keep our villages viable places for us to work and live.
The following pages list suggestions that have been built up during normal times. – The Welsh Government announced on the 19th of June that they were going to allow tourist attractions to open on the 3rd of July and accommodation providers from monday the 13th of July. It is not clear at present which businesses have survived the Covid – 19 lockdown period and feel they will be able to open in July. At present pubs and restaurants are only allowed to provide a take away service and the Welsh Government have not announced when this will change. I will be updating these pages as more information becomes available.
