Gilfach Wen Barn – Accessibility Statement

Gilfach Wen Barn aims to provide comfortable and accessible accommodation for guests with a wide range of mobility needs and neurodiverse requirements. The information below outlines the accessibility features available throughout the property.


1. Parking & Building Access

  • The car park is level, with space to park close to the front door, making access easier for guests with limited mobility.

  • The entrance to the building is level, and all ground-floor doorways are wide enough for wheelchair access.


2. Ground-Floor Bedrooms

  • Gilfach Wen Barn includes a ground-floor bedroom with ample manoeuvring space for wheelchair users.

  • This room contains bunk beds, with clear space around the beds for side access.


3. Accessible Bathrooms

Wet Room

  • The downstairs wet room includes:

    • A folding shower seat (manufacturer’s maximum weight limit: 100 kg)

    • Reachable shower controls that can be operated while seated

    • A toilet with support bars on both sides (weight limit: 100 kg)

Additional Facilities

  • One bathroom is equipped for wheelchair users.

  • One shower room is wheelchair accessible.

4. Kitchen & Dining Areas

  • The kitchen and kitchen sink are not fully wheelchair accessible.

  • However, the dining room has power points positioned at accessible heights, enabling alternative arrangements when required. Guests can request assistance in adapting the setup.


5. Garden Access

  • The garden includes level sections and is accessible via a ramp, making it easier for wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility to enjoy the outdoor space.


6. Colour Schemes for Visual Clarity

  • Each room has distinctively different wall, floor and doorway colour schemes, supporting guests with visual impairments or cognitive processing needs.


7. Mobile Phone Coverage

  • Mobile coverage depends on the network provider.

  • A Vodafone transmitter located across the valley provides strong signal throughout the farm.

  • Coverage on other networks may vary and can be patchy in some areas.


8. Support for Neurodiverse Guests

  • As an autistic owner (“Aspie”), I understand the importance of accommodating guests who are neurodiverse or on the autistic spectrum.

  • If any member of your group requires specific sensory, environmental or routine-based adjustments, please let me know in advance so I can help tailor the environment for their comfort.
